Each year our Lord sends us to conduct Vacation Bible School for the children of La Pesca, Mexico – a small fishing village on the Gulf Coast about 120 miles south of Brownsville.
We always begin with a morning assembly. Last year about 125 children attended. This year, the number grew to over 200.
After assembly, we broke the children into smaller groups according to age. Here you see a group of children singing.
Children also participated in crafts. Here, the kids are decorating their very own sun visor.
We kept the children busy with sports. Kickball is always a favorite. They have so much energy to burn off!
This is why we are really here. We taught the children about Jesus and His love. We also conducted services for the parents.
We also fed the children. After a hard morning of Bible school, nothing hits the spot much better than a sandwich washed down with Kool-aid.
We sent the children home with a bag of goodies. Toys, candy and, of course, the story of Jesus.
Every child who raised their hand in this picture is accepting Jesus as their Lord. More than 80 people made first time professions of faith on this trip. Fifty were children and the rest were their parents.
This is why our Lord sends us. This is why we must go.
How you can help
Vacation Bible Schools are a good area for churches to help. There are many towns like La Pesca throughout Mexico who need VBS. If your congregation is willing to commit to a long term relationship with a village, we would love to use our contacts to help you set up your own program.
There are also many other places where we could go if we had the money and manpower. If you or your church would like to help, you can contact us here.
